Should the computer run continuously?
With today's Power Management technology, Advanced Power Management or Advanced Configuration and Power Interface (ACPI), the computer sets itself into a low power usage mode after a user-specified amount of time when the computer is left on. The computer is in a sleep or stand-by mode and uses less power. The computer can be brought out of this state quickly and is ready to be used with a touch of a button, a mouse movement, or a simple keystroke.
There are times, though, when it is better to turn off the computer, such as when the computer will not be used for long lengths of time or during inclement weather, but if you are stepping away from the computer to refill the coffee mug, answer the doorbell, or take a short break, it is better to leave the computer on and let it go to sleep. It is also a good idea to unplug the power cord and the telephone cord to the modem during inclement weather.
Does having more memory on my video card make it faster?
No. More video memory will not speed up your video card. It will let you run more colors at higher resolutions.
Where can I find my Certificate of Authenticity number?
Certificate of Authenticity numbers are not included on Windows manuals. Instead, they can be found on a sticker attached directly on your case of your Desktop.
I received several floppy disks and CD discs with my computer. Do I have to install these before I can use the programs?
If you purchased your system with an OS, everything that needs to be loaded on your computer will be loaded when you receive it. Most of those floppy disks and CD discs are for backup or troubleshooting purposes. However, some applications, such as Encarta and Streets Plus, only install part of the program. The disc must be inserted in the CD-ROM drive in order to use the program. When you launch a program that needs a disc to run, the program will let you know.
Is damage from a lightning strike covered under the Columbus Micro warranty?
